Bhagavad Gita
2.39

एषा तेऽभिहिता साङ्ख्ये बुद्धिर्योगे त्विमां शृणु | बुद्ध्या युक्तो यया पार्थ कर्मबन्धं प्रहास्यसि ||३९||

eṣhā te'bhihitā sāṅkhye buddhir yoge tv imāṁ śhṛṇu buddhyā yukto yayā pārtha karma-bandhaṁ prahāsyasi

Translation

Thus far I have declared to you the wisdom of Sankhya. Now listen, O Partha, to the wisdom of Yoga, by which you shall break through the bonds of karma.

Interpretation

Krishna marks a transition. The teaching of Sankhya (the philosophy of discrimination between soul and matter, described in the previous verses) is now complete. Now he will teach the 'buddhi yoga' — the yoga of wisdom applied to action. This yoga, when practiced, severs the bonds of karma that keep the soul in the cycle of birth and death.
