नासतो विद्यते भावो नाभावो विद्यते सतः | उभयोरपि दृष्टोऽन्तस्त्वनयोस्तत्त्वदर्शिभिः ||१६||
nāsato vidyate bhāvo nābhāvo vidyate sataḥ ubhayor api dṛṣṭo'ntas tv anayos tattva-darśhibhiḥ
Translation
The unreal has no existence, and the real never ceases to be. The seers of truth have concluded this, having studied the nature of both.
Interpretation
This is one of the most philosophically profound statements in the Gita. 'Asat' (the unreal — the body, sensations, the world of change) has no permanent existence. 'Sat' (the real — the soul, Brahman) never ceases to exist. Those who have seen the truth ('tattva-darśhibhiḥ') have verified this through direct experience, not mere intellectual acceptance.
