Bhagavad Gita
18.4

निश्चयं शृणु मे तत्र त्यागे भरतसत्तम | त्यागो हि पुरुषव्याघ्र त्रिविधः सम्प्रकीर्तितः ||

niścayaṁ śṛṇu me tatra tyāge bharata-sattama tyāgo hi puruṣa-vyāghra tri-vidhaḥ samprakīrtitaḥ

Translation

Hear My definitive conclusion on this matter of tyaga, O best of the Bharatas; O tiger among men, tyaga is declared to be of three kinds.

Interpretation

Krishna announces his definitive position and introduces the characteristic threefold analysis. This triple classification will structure the entire conclusion of the Gita. 'Tiger among men' (purushavyaghra) — calling Arjuna by this epithet here, at the chapter's opening, is meaningful: it reminds Arjuna of his heroic nature that is not meant for paralysis but for engaged, enlightened action. The definitive teaching (nishchayam) is about to come.
