Interpretation

Rajasic action: driven by desire (kamepsuna — motivated by craving), performed with egotism (sahankara — with the sense 'I am the doer, I will get the result'), and requiring great effort (bahulaayasa — laborious, strained). The effort aspect is revealing: sattvic action flows naturally; rajasic action strains. When we force results, grasping at outcomes, our effort is rajasic regardless of how impressive it appears. The exhausted executive, the compulsive achiever, the person who can never stop — these are portraits of rajasic action, full of effort and ego, producing results but not peace.
