Translation
The faith of each person is in accordance with their nature, O Arjuna. A person is made of faith — as their faith is, so indeed they are.
Interpretation
One of the Gita's most psychologically penetrating verses: 'Shraddhamayah ayam purushah' — a human being is constituted of their faith. What we believe deeply — not just intellectually but at the level of our most fundamental trust — that is what we are. Our faith shapes our values, which shape our choices, which shape our character, which shapes our destiny. The deepest self-examination is not 'what do I think?' but 'what do I trust?' 'What do I love and believe in most fundamentally?' This is the level at which transformation must happen: transformation of faith.
