ममैवांशो जीवलोके जीवभूतः सनातनः | मनःषष्ठानीन्द्रियाणि प्रकृतिस्थानि कर्षति ||
mamaivāṁśo jīva-loke jīva-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ manaḥ-ṣaṣṭhānīndriyāṇi prakṛti-sthāni karṣati
Translation
An eternal portion of Myself, becoming the individual soul in the world of living beings, draws to itself the five senses with the mind as the sixth, abiding in Prakriti.
Interpretation
A profoundly intimate teaching: each individual soul is an eternal portion of the Divine. The Jivatman — the individual self — is not a separate creation but a fragment, a spark of the infinite fire. This portion draws to itself the five sense organs and the mind (making six instruments of experience) and through these engages with the world of Prakriti (nature). The soul is eternally one with the Supreme while appearing as an individual. This verse grounds the entire spiritual path: we are not working toward becoming divine but recognizing the divinity we already are — an eternal portion of the Eternal.
