Bhagavad Gita
14.15

रजसि प्रलयं गत्वा कर्मसङ्गिषु जायते | तथा प्रलीनस्तमसि मूढयोनिषु जायते ||

rajasi pralayaṁ gatvā karma-saṅgiṣu jāyate tathā pralīnas tamasi mūḍha-yoniṣu jāyate

Translation

Meeting death in rajas, one is born among those attached to action; dying in tamas, one is born in the wombs of the deluded.

Interpretation

Death in a rajasic state leads to rebirth among intensely action-oriented beings — those driven by ambition, desire, and compulsive doing. The soul continues its journey in an environment matching its dominant vibration. Death in tamas leads to birth in 'deluded wombs' — environments of deep confusion, limitation, or even non-human forms where consciousness has less developed capacity. This teaching is not meant to produce fear but understanding: the momentum of our dominant guna carries forward, making the cultivation of sattva both urgent and ongoing.
