क्षेत्रज्ञं चापि मां विद्धि सर्वक्षेत्रेषु भारत । क्षेत्रक्षेत्रज्ञयोर्ज्ञानं यत्तज्ज्ञानं मतं मम ॥
kṣetrajñaṃ cāpi māṃ viddhi sarvakṣetreṣu bhārata | kṣetrakṣetrajñayorjñānaṃ yattajjñānaṃ mataṃ mama ||
Translation
And know Me as the Knower of the field in all fields, O Bharata. The knowledge of the field and the knower of the field — that I consider to be true knowledge.
Interpretation
The supreme revelation: kshetrajnam cha api mam viddhi sarva-kshetreshu — 'Know Me as the Knower of the field in all fields.' Not just in your own body, but in every body, in every field of experience — the one Knower is the Divine itself. This is the Vedantic insight of one universal consciousness knowing itself through countless individual fields. And the definition of true knowledge: to know both the field (body-mind) and the Knower (the divine Self) in their proper relationship. This knowledge constitutes liberation.
