तुल्यनिन्दास्तुतिर्मौनी सन्तुष्टो येन केनचित् । अनिकेतः स्थिरमतिर्भक्तिमान्मे प्रियो नरः ॥
tulyanindāstuturmanī santuṣṭo yena kenacit | aniketaḥ sthiramatirbhaktimānme priyo naraḥ ||
Translation
For whom blame and praise are equal — who is silent, content with anything, homeless, steady of mind — full of devotion, that person is dear to Me.
Interpretation
Four more qualities completing the portrait: (1) tulya-ninda-stutir — equal in blame and praise (not disturbed by criticism, not excited by praise); (2) mauni — silent (not compulsively speaking, comfortable with silence, speaking only when necessary); (3) santushto yena kenachit — content with whatever comes (not demanding specific conditions for happiness); (4) aniketa — homeless, without fixed abode (not clinging to place, possessions, or position). And sthira-mati (steady of mind) and bhaktiman (full of devotion). This is the portrait of the ideal renunciant-devotee, free yet fully loving.
