सञ्जय उवाच | दृष्ट्वा तु पाण्डवानीकं व्यूढं दुर्योधनस्तदा | आचार्यमुपसङ्गम्य राजा वचनमब्रवीत् ||२||
sañjaya uvāca dṛṣṭvā tu pāṇḍavānīkaṁ vyūḍhaṁ duryodhanas tadā āchāryam upasaṅgamya rājā vachanam abravīt
Translation
Sanjaya said: O King, after looking at the army of the Pandavas drawn up in military array, King Duryodhana approached his teacher Dronacharya and spoke these words.
Interpretation
Sanjaya begins his narration. Duryodhana's first act — approaching his teacher Dronacharya — reveals his strategic mind. He seeks psychological reassurance from the man who trained both armies. There is irony here: Drona, by teaching both sides, has in a sense already served dharma equally.
