श्रीभगवानुवाच | लोकेऽस्मिन्द्विविधा निष्ठा पुरा प्रोक्ता मयानघ | ज्ञानयोगेन साङ्ख्यानां कर्मयोगेन योगिनाम् ||३||
śhrī bhagavān uvācha loke'smin dvi-vidhā niṣhṭhā purā proktā mayānagha jñāna-yogena sāṅkhyānāṁ karma-yogena yoginām
Translation
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: O sinless Arjuna, I have already explained that there are two classes of men who try to realize the self. Some are inclined to understand it by empirical, philosophical speculation (jnana yoga), and others are inclined to understand it by devotional service (karma yoga).
Interpretation
Krishna clarifies: there are two legitimate paths — Jnana Yoga (the path of knowledge, suitable for those of a reflective, contemplative nature) and Karma Yoga (the path of action, suitable for those of an active, engaged nature). Neither is superior in absolute terms; both lead to the same goal. The question is which is appropriate for a particular individual's nature.
